for a second rafe confused the sound of sobbing with the sound of laughter. perhaps she’d been watching a funny video or received a funny text; he thought little of it. he dropped his bag from the gym and started shrugging out of his jacket when he turned his gaze towards her finally. he paused for a minute, startled in his surprise as he recognised the tears rolling down her cheeks. “what happened?” he finally blurted out as he pulled it together to move forward to comfort her. “who upset you?”

the speed in which he races towards the door when he hears a knock almost breaks the sound barrier (and with them being over an hour late he probably shouldn’t be so eager). still, he pulls the door open with a big smile only for it to drop at the sight on the other side. “...what do you want?”

despite how awkward it was, rafe wordlessly settled himself down beside them on the bench. he never really had been very good with emotions, other people’s or his own, but he hoped his being there might offer some comfort. “whatever has upset you probably isn’t worth it, you know.” 

no. rafe didn’t quite know what to do with a no. he hadn’t prepared for this sort of situation in the slightest and so awkwardly rose from the single knee he was perched on. “right... it’s fine, yeah,” he muttered, scratching awkwardly at the hair at the nape of his neck. “i think — maybe i should stay in a hotel tonight.”

“you’re going on a date with him?” while he knows it’s not his place, rafe can’t help but comment on the fact. his eyebrow pull together as he tries to school his face into something neutral, though he can’t help but look frustrated. and, as much as he tries, he can’t help but blurt out... “he’s a d*ck!”

“hey — i know you from somewhere, don’t i?” rafe can’t place from where exactly but there was something about them that seemed familiar. admittedly, even if they have nothing in common he thinks it’s a good pick-up line. it hasn’t done him wrong so far. “or are you a model or something? is that it?”

it’s not unlike rafe to be a little too mouthy and really he’d deserved the punch thrown his way by the guy at the bar. quite rightly he’d been kicked out by the bouncers but he was surprised when it was none of his friends that followed them, and instead it was them. someone he swore to hate. apparently they stayed closer to the bar than he did, hence why he was now in their kitchen while they grabbed something to tend to his face with. “what’s the verdict? think my devilish good looks are ruined?”
